Unit2 Thanksgiving
Thanksgiving is always the last Thursday in
November and
it's always a big day for family and traditions.
It's like Christmas in some ways, but without presence and
with a lot of great food. This year, we'll all go to our cabin in
Port Ludlow. Every other year, both my immediate family
and Bridget's immediate family all get together for Thanksgiving
at our cabin and we end up having about 20 people (including 4 little
kids).
We spend the whole day cooking, preparing, drinking wine,
talking and having a great, although sometimes chaotic, time.
My job is to keep the fire going and take people on beach walks,
Bridget's
is to cook the turkey - and we delegate things for
everyone to do. And everyone brings a dish as well to share.
Some traditional dishes in our family are turkey (of course),
crandberry dressing, ham, stuffing, sweet potatoes, salad,
creamed onions, green beans, mashed potatoes and gravy and
of course pies - pumpkin and pecan are usually the most popular.
We make a makeshift long table with our dining room table and
three or four card tables with a long table cloth all the way from
the kitchen to the fireplace, we say grace and then dig in!
We have a neighbor at our cabin who usually aren't there for
the holiday, so they let us use their place as well so we have an
extra kitchen and more room for people to sleep. We usually
have a bonfire at night and make smokes (if the weather permits).
People can stay through for the day or through the weekend if
they like and it's just a great time to enjoy the company of your family,
eat great, traditional food, play cards andhave a lot of laughs.
